Ronin | Globus Artist in Residence Program
Ronin Gallery and Globus Washitsu are excited to announce the Ronin/Globus Artist-in-Residence Program. Open to Japanese artists, this opportunity provides housing, a tatami studio space, and inclusion in Ronin Gallery’s exhibition Contemporary Talents of Japan. As March 2016 marks the fifth anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, our theme during this inaugural year is “The Great Wave: Images to support the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.”

The program will assume a different theme each year. The artist-in-residence will be the featured artist in Ronin Gallery’s summer exhibition, Contemporary Talents of Japan. In addition, they will also receive a two week stay at Globus Washitsu in central Manhattan, and a round-trip ticket between Tokyo and NYC. There will be some recognition of first and second runners up. The opening reception for the exhibition will be held by Ronin Gallery, while a social reception will take place at Globus Washitsu. A portion of exhibition profits will be donated to the Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. A blinded, prestigious panel will determine the winner and finalists for this residency. Judges are selected to reflect a diversity of viewpoints and opinions. All possess extensive experience or education in the field paired with a sensitivity to the pulse of the contemporary Japanese art scene.
